Why did you choose this rope over others?

What was advised to me awhile ago was to try Spinning Poi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poi_%28performance_art… lots of the hand movements are if not the same very similar and it can help strengthen your hand and arms. Also where you can really only practice flogging in your home or at a dungeon you can spin poi anywhere including on mass transit or in parks on sunny days.

I have found for most groundwork that (can’t believe im typing this) Wal-Mart in the boating section has some very good Nylon Rope 300ish pulling strenght nice and soft and if you dye it it becomes even more supple. Its $12 a 100ft and they have some good wieght rated hardware. Just if using a dye use white vinegar and not salt and you have to use a high temp soak bath. Plus the marine grade is great for any Wet applications as its resistant to mold and mildew. Just my 2 cents. And for natural fibers “Twisted Monk” has some good prices.

I liken a great rope top/artist to a great painter: The paints, i.e., ropes, get layered onto the canvas, i.e., rope bottom, and the evolving/finished product is the painting itself, which is to be admired, appreciated, &c. As for the painter, the glory is in the work itself, not the one who ‘worked’ it, albeit that shouldn’t stop people from giving feedback and/or kudos even.
For me personally, the best shows have been where the rope bottom has gone on a specific journey, from A to Z, and come out of it in a different space/place. That usually happens when the connection with the rigger is is solid, deep and true. And therein lies the magic.

Flogging allows a huge range and variety of feels and intensities because of different materials and styles and can be anywhere on the stingy to thuddy range, I’ve seen styles designed to draw blood and works really well as a warm up for other activities, so I expect that’s a lot of why it’s so well loved by subs/bottoms. I know I love to be flogged. I would expect wielding floggers is not as wide a spectrum, I have my own style and my selection of implements, and most bottoms can take being flogged for a really long time depending on how the flogging is done so part of it may be that a lot of the Doms/tops get tired of doing it long before most subs/bottoms reach their limits. Just an opinion.

What’s called aerial silk is not made of nylon, not silk. There are different kinds of aerial silks available, depending on how stretchy you want it to be, whether it should be fire-proof, etc.
Aerial yoga is indeed popular, using the same fabric aerialist artists use.

I’ve used similar fabric for comfortable inverted suspensions, and it’s quite nice, especially when used instead of a hip/waist rope – a rope can still be added on top for visual effect, but the model’s weight was supported by the fabric.

The only occurrence of suspending someone with real silk ribbons I saw was several years ago in London, performed by the Leather Family at one of the LAMs; it was quite safe as silk is very strong, but it was painful for the model, as the ribbons were cutting into the skin – it was a short suspension, so it was bearable, but just.

Here’s my most memorable actual experience with bruises….

My neighbor across the street had done some mechanical work on my old ’72 Ranchero. One day the bell on the gate to my large, gated compound rang, I answered it and there was this VERY cute, angelic-looking boy, probably around 14, standing there. He explained that he was now living for a while with his grand-dad ( he had a 1-bedroom duplex unit) across the street and he was returning a mechanic’s manual I had loaned him.

I was totally in shock when I saw the very obvious deep bruises on the boy’s neck….in fact I was too much in shock to even comment (although I’m sure I stared quite obviously). the boy was wearing a tank-top that did nothing to hide the multiple dark bruises that seemed to go all around his slender neck. Later I felt guilty remorse that I hadn’t asked the boy about the bruises. Maybe his Grandfather had abused him for some reason (he was a rather rough and brutal old retired mechanic and was probably capable of such). But I also speculated that perhaps the boy had been experimenting with auto-asphyxiation or even auto-hanging (as I understand is not uncommon among some high-school kids these days).
